Fast track your success
Have you ever asked for help with your business? If there’s one thing I’d do differently when it comes to my early career, it would have been to find a mentor. I’ve spent time recently at two incredible events, Grant Cardone’s 10X Business Boot Camp in Miami, and also closer to home with Gary Vaynerchuck in the UK. Definitely worth checking out what they have to say, they are really inspirational when it comes to getting a kick up the arse for your business! Both of these guys have some really great stuff they can teach any entrepreneur about building their business, no matter what stage they are at. And I am certainly don’t think I am above learning from the best.
You are not an island!
However long you’ve been in business, for every one thing you’re good at there’s something else that you haven’t got a clue how to do. The mistake a lot of people make is this idea of ‘fake it til you make it’, or pretending that you know exactly what you’re doing, and never asking for advice from anyone. Maybe it’s a British thing, this embarrassment as being seen to not have all the answers, but who are we kidding?! There’s always room to open your mind and learn more.
Always be learning
What I’ve seen from my career is that there is absolutely nothing wrong with asking for help. Even if – ESPECIALLY if! – you feel like you’re at the top of your game. There’s always something you can learn or improve on.
Think about top sportspeople. Even the best in the world have a coach, someone who watches them, helps them improve, and keeps them focussed on achieving their goals. The world of business is no different.
What people like Gary and Grant have in common with other successful people I know is that they are constantly open to learning new things, and sharing what they learn too. To be successful, really takes a big dose of humility and honesty. It’s about recognising that you don’t have all the answers, and being bold enough to ask for help and advice from people who could help you.
The 10X conference was brilliant for my motivation and goal plannin, and I’ve come back buzzing to implement some of the ideas and strategies Grant has talked about. If you’re feeling a bit stuck in a rut with your business, or feeling like you’re muddling your way through things without really knowing what you’re doing, think – who are the people you respect and admire? Who is absolutely flying, or doing the things you want to be doing? You’ve got to spend time with people who are going to inspire and motivate you, because believe me, it rubs off!
Don’t ask, don’t get.
There is so much to gain from tapping into other people’s experience. So if it’s a situation you’re not sure how to deal with, or just the feeling that you’re not quite nailing it, maybe it’s time you got yourself a mentor. Or at the very least, check out people like Gary V, or Grant and what they’re doing. It can’t hurt to try something new, and usually, it’s when you make a change and take the first step that all the other changes you want to see become possible too.
