Checking in on the sales challenge

How are the new recruits getting on?

A few weeks ago, I challenged anyone who wanted to make £20k in 20 days to join a new team I put together. After a month of hard work, let’s take a look at what’s been happening…

At the time of writing, the original team are still in place, with two new recruits replacing one of the original members. I’ve been impressed with the work ethic and can-do attitude of the sales challenge guys. From a standing start, some of them with absolutely no experience in sales or finance, they are proving that so much of being successful is about having the right attitude, showing up ready to put the effort in, and being a team player.

There have been mixed results in terms of personal targets achieved – I’m not going to lie and pretend everyone is a millionaire just yet! – but things are pulling in the right direction.

What the challenge is proving to me is that it IS possible to make a change, even for patterns and habits which you think will always be the same. If the culture in your business is not where you need it to be, it IS possible to change it.

We’ve seen these guys put in 110% towards smashing their targets, and for me, that is more than half the battle. The other thing to notice is that there’s more than one metric for success too. So even if not everyone is rolling in the cash straight away, the new team have definitely all learnt a whole load of new skills in the process so far. I’ve seen again the importance of having a team all pulling in the same direction, and why it’s important to take action to change things as soon as you spot they’re not working.
